About This Course
Close Reading Level 1B uses National Geographic Learning’s Reading Explorer to help students advance their reading comprehension, academic vocabulary, and critical-thinking skills through engaging nonfiction texts and real-world topics.
In this interactive small-group class, students learn to analyze main ideas and supporting evidence, understand text structure and author’s purpose, make stronger inferences, compare information across texts, and explain their thinking with clear textual support. Our curriculum goes beyond typical grade-level Common Core State Standards by setting higher expectations for comprehension, vocabulary development, written responses, and analytical reading.
Classes are limited to 4–6 students, allowing each learner to receive personalized guidance and frequent opportunities to participate. Students also receive complimentary after-class assignments and practice activities to reinforce learning and build independent study habits. Our goal is to help students become confident, thoughtful readers and achieve strong academic results across all subjects.
