About This Course

Close Reading 1A uses National Geographic Learning’s Reading Explorer L1 to help students build stronger reading comprehension, academic vocabulary, and critical-thinking skills through engaging nonfiction texts and real-world topics.

In this interactive small-group class, students learn to identify main ideas and supporting details, analyze text structure and author’s purpose, make inferences, and support their answers with evidence from the text. Our curriculum goes beyond typical grade-level Common Core State Standards by setting higher expectations for comprehension, vocabulary, written responses, and analytical thinking.

Classes are limited to 4–6 students so every learner receives personalized guidance and frequent opportunities to participate. Students also have access to complimentary after-class assignments and practice activities to reinforce new skills. Our goal is to help students become confident, thoughtful readers and achieve strong academic results across all subjects.
